Why Colored Dust?
When I work on a pastel-on-sandpaper painting, pastel dust falls onto my easel and onto the floor. At the end of a studio session I can tell how productive I’ve been – lots of colored dust means I’ve had a great day!

I just read your blog and was very impressed at how knowledgeble you are and your attention to detail. I was also impressed that you brought some charisma to your blog rather than the same old robotic writing I see from everyone else. We would love to have you write us a WebWatcher article sometime.

i think i know what you feel…while painting i’m melting with my colours, even my body is involved …to keep this sensation a bit longer i mostly leave the blobs on my nose, cheek, hands and hair for some time (after finishing my daywork).

What is the best and kindest way to get colored pastel dust off hands and clothing? This will be your great contribution to artists online DIY solutions…

Before I start working, I apply a barrier cream called “ArtGuard” to my hands. (I use it primarily because I am concerned about toxic chemicals getting through any tiny cuts I might have). Afterwards pastel easily washes off with soap and water. Removing pastel from clothes is not a problem and doesn’t require anything special. I just throw them in the washing machine.
